Hogar de Vida Children’s Home

Established in 1995 by Founders Tim and Dena Stromstad, Homes of Life is one of the Christian ministries in Latin America that exists to serve the needs of orphans in Costa Rica and Guatemala by providing a nurturing and safe place to learn about God’s love for them in Christ.

The Stromstad Family

Our family was busy serving in a home for children we founded in Guatemala when God spoke to our hearts to come to Costa Rica to start another home. Land was purchased in the small town of Atenas in 1994 and we opened our doors to children in1995. Today, Hogar de Vida has grown to three homes supervised by experienced “Tias” or house moms. Our desire is to see children restored and reunited with their families. In cases where children have been abandoned, our homes provide stability and loving care where siblings are kept together as family groups.

Hogar de Vida is a temporary shelter that houses up to 35 children ages birth to 10 years old. We are a Christian ministry working in partnership with PANI, Child Protection Government Services of Costa Rica, providing a Christ-centered home for “at-risk” children.

Our objective is to meet the needs of our children by providing:

  • a stable home
  • good nutrition
  • clothing
  • education
  • trustworthy authority figures
  • spiritual training

Our ultimate goal is for these children to know that they have a Savior who loves them, desires to indwell them and give them hope. We are a Christian mission that lives by faith and relies largely on financial support and donations. The government provides less than half the money needed to take care for the 35 children at Hogar de Vida. We rely on support from people like you who believe in what we do.
